Our Philosophy

The Sizemore Group design philosophy is that appropriateness made manifest is sustainable and beautiful. We desire the elegant use of resources to fit the client’s needs; as it is in the not wasting of things there is the beauty.

Our primary role is to listen to our clients, to define the design problem and to optimize and integrate resources to create beauty. We believe that we create great and beautiful places when vision, collaboration and integration converge. We call this architecture with a higher purpose to optimize the client’s resources toward the fulfillment of their mission.

Our History

We take space and give it spirit.

Sizemore Group was founded as a firm dedicated to sustainable architecture that serves the public good and inspires, as well as motivates. The firm broke ground in the 70s as an early proponent of energy efficiency through daylighting. In the 90s, the firm introduced Visual Programming, a collaborative and groundbreaking approach to Strategic Planning that defines and balances the needs, scope and budget for a building. We then took this building-level tool and adapted it to more complex situations, like town centers, with multiple players and interests. This approach not only gives all stakeholders a substantial voice in the planning process, but results in projects that better serve the most needs.

Sizemore Group is once again breaking ground in the 21st century as we design and plan sustainable towns and campus environments. Our work often serves as the catalyst for other development and redevelopment, which helps create a sense of place, culture, history, and community.

Determined not to merely build structures, the firm is on a Mission: to fill every project with a spirit of community, to create environments that bring about the best in all of us, and to instill a sense of shared values and memorable experiences.
Our Goal is to create Architecture with a Higher Purpose.

Sizemore Group has involved themselves in sustainable design strategies for many years.Since the early 1970s we have acted as consultants to other architects, government, and to institutions, assisting them in planning and designing sustainable buildings and communities. Our approach to energy conservation relies on climate adapted design and richly daylighted spaces. Because of this mastery of daylighting we are frequently able to deliver spaces which are illuminated at levels far above the minimum lighting standard and with a quality of light that adds value to the space while saving money and natural resources.

We are charter members of the Georgia Chapter of the US Green Building Council and the Georgia Chapter of the Congress of New Urbanism. About 70% of our architects and planners are LEED Accredited. Our services cover the range of building design and construction from Sustainable Planning, through Sustainable Architecture, to Sustainable Interiors. We frequently implement our sustainable master planning services with LEED renovations, additions or new building design.
We continue to find success when the highest valued design has the highest economic return and the lowest impact on the environment.
