When designing a comprehensive renovation of an existing facility to accommodate the the Whitney M. Young, Jr. School of Social Work, Sizemore Group conceived of a solution that features key elements of the original design that had been hidden through previous renovations.
Following Emory’s core design goal of “enlightened frugality,” Sizemore Group created a 90,000-gsf expansion and addition that helped Emory’s School of Business create an identify of place that was different from other campus buildings but still wholly within the Emory idiom.
Sizemore Group oversaw a collaborative approach to design, leading highly collaborative sessions with all KSU College of Education stakeholders to conceptualize a structure that would provide needed additional space and incorporate building materials of existing buildings for a cohesive look.
Sizemore Group helped the Medical College of Georgia identify a not-so-obvious solution to help turn what seemed to be a constraint – working with a historic building – into a beautiful opportunity for the school.
Sizemore Group designed Allgood Hall as a recognizable gateway for all the academic buildings and maintained sensitivity to the historic southern style campus, incorporating building elements with a persona of strength and integrity and creating technologically advanced classrooms that allow for a 21st century learning experience.
As part of the complete renovation of an existing 26,000-gsf facility located on Clark Atlanta University’s main historic quadrangle, Sizemore Group created an addition to accommodate vertical circulation and restored the facade that faces the historic quad to its original design.
SPSU engaged Sizemore Group to update the school’s comprehensive Master Plan, integrating the adoption of a new Strategic Plan and creating a ten-year vision. Since its completion, Sizemore Group has done additional studies for SPSU’s new housing, including creating concepts for theme housing, apartment housing, and mixed-use.
Located adjacent to downtown Oxford, Oxford College faces the challenges and opportunities of similar settings: boundaries that are shared with neighborhoods and other institutions, aging physical assets, and a need to accommodate growth. Sizemore Group’s proposed plan builds on reinforcing some of the original planning principles and spaces, maintaining the core of the campus and careful consideration of sustainable practices.
